Best Day Ever MTB
New Zealand
Приєднався 8 лип 2013
I am passionate about all things to do with mountain biking and despite being in my 50's now still enjoy racing and trying to progress my skills. I am lucky to ride with a great group of like minded friends who luckily have a sense of humour. We call ourselves Dad's Army not because we are dad's but rather after the old TV series. Basically a bunch of old fools who are incompetent but still think we are cool.
The videos show new mountain bike tracks, mtb races, mountain bike reviews and general mucking around on bikes.
I have joined the E bike fraternity and absolutely love them so most of my reviews are E bikes these days.
The channel name came about because when ever we went out on a ride we would tell those that couldn't make it that they missed the "best day ever"

A new adventure, but where next???
I have decided to extent the best day ever mtb caravan series. But what is the plan and where are we going?

Safety third. This seems to be a common saying these days. I look into safety mountain biking and specifically eye safety. I look at the new Magicshine Rouleur riding glasses and the Windbreaker range. Is it finally time to do the WIDOW MAKER? Cougar Park-Tokoroa.

Tokoroa in the central North Island of NZ has a mountain bike park called Cougar park. It has a feature called the Widow maker which is a drop between two rocks. I have always been too scared but today I am determined. I do end up crashing but not on this feature. I enjoyed these mini interviews!
I use to love doing this …..but on dirt bikes
Every needs to remember the camera never shows the true steepness of the hills
You said makara wrong
The Problem with powerplay is the lazy power delivery and no overrun. It is the most powerful motor but only when you can sustain pedaling on easy climbs like this one. When it's technical terrain where you have to crank the pedals to avoid strikes the Powerplay becomes really slow and can't hang with Bosch's instant power delivery and overrun. Bosch gives near full power when you touch the pedals. But powerplay requires a one crank to get started.
I agree with you 100%. In this test, it was clearly the fastest, but I much prefer the Bosch for the reasons you describe.
Feels like an opportunity for a James May style 'our man in ......' series 👍
I don't have enough fingers for the number of times my glasses have been struck by overhanging greenery. On a couple of those occasions I've wondered what my eye would be like if struck directly. I wear scrip glasses so sadly I can't wear the ones you have here.
Just got sent a picture of a friend with a stick in his eye. The picture is so horrific I could never show it. Makes you think though.
Edit is very cool 🎉
That is great from Mr cool himself
hey lance looking foward to seeing your trip, you should come up to Kerikeri and ride whitehills Kerikeri mtb club, you would be warmly welcomed!
I really want to do that. Will try this summer. Everyone is always so friendly when I come up, and they make me feel so special.
sounds like a great trip, looking forward to seeing you try out some random bikes as well. on the topic of the dads army whistler trip. who in the dads army group would have the best videos from that trip [if any] and what is their channel name? don't want to miss all the whistler action.
None of them have a channel as such but Zak Gould videos the most. Fb & insta especially
The Santa Cruz slander 😂 valid jokes i just like the way their frames look
I actually like the brand. Shouldn't make inside jokes on videos. In a recent video, Steve admitted to owning 6 of them and Zak 10. That is why I made the jokes.
What an epic trip Lance! We will miss you mate but keep sending through the vids.
I'm looking forward to the DJ footage with some fade to black as well.
@@bestdayevermtb2 I think we can make that happen 🤞
Did my first bikepacking trip, 425 miles, down pacific coast highway 101 five years ago at age 61. I’ve bike packed every summer since. 60 is the new 40, no big deal.
Must admit I have never tried bike packing, but I have often thought about it.
@@bestdayevermtb2 nice alternative to backpacking.
Far and away my favourite mtb channel! Can’t wait to see your European antics!
You are too kind. In Verona today already, so trip well underway
You will ride offroad until your first serious accident, when you learn how long it takes to heal. 50 is nothing. I'm 74 and still rising, just not offroad or in traffic. The trails shown in this video are very mild.
Yes, the trails in this video are mild, but if you follow the channel, you will see we do double black trails also. We have all had surgery due to serious accidents but for some reason keep coming back for more. If you continue to watch the channel at some point, it will become clear why this video was made and why the trails were mild.
Come to the UK!
Spending a Month in the UK. Based in Scotland but hoping to ride Dyfi and bike park wales as well.
@@bestdayevermtb2 great choices, if you get time have a look at Dirt Farm, not too far from BPW
Riding and review the bike parks eg best trail, bike hire, cost of uplifts, best food and bike shops
Yes that sounds like a good format. Will do my best.
Sounds like an epic trip😊
Lets hope so.
Sounds exciting, can't wait to see your adventure!
Looking forward to getting into it. Did a 60km ride with Mrs around Verona today but didn't film that.
I reckon having one vacation / travel vlog video and one mountain bike day video separate would be sweet. I assume some people only want to see the riding, like if they search for that park specificly. But to see the local towns you go to, 'touristy' stuff you do and random food you eat would be cool too
I like that idea. Must admit it is a lot more work but do plan to show some other bits from the trip other than biking.
shot aww johnny, looking forward to it !!!!!xoxo
Buy a good quality second hand e-bike that has already depreciated from new , then sell it at the end of the trip, just like the tourists do in NZ with Vans.
Thought about that, but I still have an issue getting e bike from Italy to Scotland. Also need big vehicle to fit e bike in and didn't want to buy anything.
Sounds like an epic trip, looking forward to the vids maybe you could edit the opera out.
Four hours sitting on a stone step. Finished at 1am. My bum had gone to sleep and my wife did fall asleep. Will definitely edit that out.
Brilliant. Sounds like a fantastic adventure. And thanks for offering to pay for me to tag along . I am sure I heard that in there somewhere.
Not sure how I can afford it to be honest. The caravan seems like a super cheap option now. I guess you only live once.
Enjoy ! That trip will be mega
In Verona today. So far going really well.
Exciting! Have fun.
Thanks, that is the plan.
Apparently ciabatta means slipper 💡
Yummy slippers
Just checked on translate and yes you are correct. Will be helpful for when I am buying slippers I guess.😂
@@bestdayevermtb2 just watch the accent or you might order a railway tie...
Can't wait!
At a quick count that was 84 times someone said "Steve" 😆Its almost like you have to be called Steve to be in DA
Only 84. Yes, lots of Steve's alright.
I started riding mountian bikes in 1980. My first mnt bike was a Bianchi flat bar road bike I put knoby tires on. I am now 62 and still shredding. I am not old enough yet for an ebike.
I'm glad you like your mountain bikes. I personally believe the "I am not old enough for an e bike" is the wrong way of looking at it. Maybe you don't want an e bike, but age is irrelevant. Nobody says I am too young for a motocross bike. E bikes are just enough type of adrenaline sport more similar to mountain biking than motocross. Many of the young DH racers use them for training as you can get laps in when no shuttle is available. Nearly everyone has your attitude until they spend some serious time on a good e bike. I know as all of my friends said the same as you initially.
Whoever invents good regenerative breaking for e-bikes is going to be rich :-)
Certainly would be interesting. I guess weight will be the issue, but technology keeps making amazing things.
At 9:00: Admit it, you felt a little bit guilty then :-)
✌️
Have you considered taking up modelling 😅
Don't think I had the looks when young and certainly not now.😂
54 mum of 3 boys and just moved to a Scott emtb. Live for mountain biking, downhill adrenalin, fresh air and good times. If you ever want a lady to join in with the boys at Woodhill one day let me know! Have I ever mentioned e bikes!! 😂
Thank you for reminding me. I often forget to mention E bikes. We do have some ladies that ride with us. If you see us out there come say high and join us for a lap. Won't be at Woodhill until September as just started a new adventure.
65 here. Ride 3 times a week. Kayak, fish , hike and backpack all the time. Yeah, retirement is so boring... Hardly costs me any money.
Anyone who says they would be bored not working just has no imagination. Keep it up.
Ricky mountain has no over run ? Does that make it harder to get up a rock ledge for example?
I think it does. I personally missed the over run. I guess you would get used to it. I guess the extra power may make up for it.
Sick edit Lance 🤘
Photochromic is pretty much all I use at the moment.
They are really useful.
You guys are so lucky to have mates to ride with ...nice ...im 54 and always..alone
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not sure where you are, but there are usually riding groups you can join up with. Sometimes literally riding up to people and chatting for a while, then ask if you mind joining them for a bit. I do this all the time. Doesn't always work, but I have made friends in this way.
@@bestdayevermtb2 I think its the style of riding free ride and jumps super steep terrain its not every ones cup of tea

Nice edit, and nice style down side of fries, gotta get the courage to hit that, glasses look good to😊
Thanks so much. I really like side of fries. Quite like the glasses also
Last time they had a promotion on their bike lights, they gave me a pair of glasses as a gift. Honestly, I was really surprised and delighted by these glasses. I didn't expect such a high-quality item as a freebie, and I really like them. Mainly because they make me look cool, haha😜. Now, I don't just wear them when mountain biking; they also help filter out those jerks who blast their high beams at me when I'm driving. Since they also provide UV protection, I wear them when I go out, too. I really don't want to buy a bunch of different glasses, it's too much hassle.
They initially sent me a pair and thought the same as you. I now wear them everywhere I go. I can not recommend them enough.
The photochromic feature does seem quite convenient.😊
Good stuff ! Are they e-bike certified? 😁 The coupon works on the US website nice! 👍 How long will it stay valid?
I am not sure. I think that code may work all the time on any purchase on their website. I could be wrong but the same code has been used for all of my light promotions. I genuinely love my glasses. I am on holiday and wear them all day even when not riding.
Well, I just ordered... Loved my previous photochromic ryders until I broke them last year, have been looking for some good ones since then. 👍
64, fairly recent rider (4 year) ride with a group of 40-50 year olds. Started on an Levo now I ride my acoustic as much as my e bike. The group still out rides me but graciously wait at the bottom. They have definitely made me a better rider. Spent a day at the bike park in Big Bear California, I am really enjoying the ski lift up part. I have never ridden Whistler, skied it plenty, but I have done both at Mammoth and it is worthy of a trip. Hit Mammoth and Tahoe, then head to Colorado and that is an epic trip, skiing or riding. Great video, liked the interviews.
Would love to do that trip. Are e bikes welcome where you ride? I am never too sure as it always feels like America is very anti e bikes.
@@bestdayevermtb2 yes both Mammoth and Big Bear allow class one. Northstar in Tahoe allows them. Most ski hills that have become summer bike parks allow them. I ride my Levo on 95% of the public trails in San Diego. Colorado can be a little challenging as some of the ski areas are on Federal land and it depends on the land manger if they allow e bikes.
Awesome guys!! I'm in the US. Just about to turn 61 and got back into mtb 4yrs ago, initially as a way to cross train for rim-to-rim runs in the Grand Canyon. Mtb soon became all I could think about, and the majority of my training! I converted a 2008 Rocky Mountain Flatline 1 DH bike, to be an all mountain training rig, by adding a dropper, and 1x. It's 46lbs/21kg of goodness, and the majority of what I do on it, is climbing, on the same trails that I run on. It's an absolute blast.
You sound like you are a bit fitter, I mean a lot fitter than me. 21kg DH bike riding up hill. That sounds like hard work. Keep up the good work.
